Badgers, obsessions and self-fulfilling prophecies

It’s a well known “fact” among my friends in Manchester that I am obsessed with badgers.  Now it’s very true that I do have the following things among my things:

1) A furry Badger hand puppet
2) A T-shirt with a Badger picture and “Woo! Badger” written on it
3) A Dancing Badger emoticon on MSN
4) A picture of Badgers on my MSN Profile
5) A Webpage all about Badgers on my Favourites List

I also enjoying badgering people about things and using the word “badger” in every day conversation. (But then, who doesn’t?)  The point is this … it all started when a friend thought I said “badgers” when I actually said “badges”.  Ever since then, he’s been convinced and managed to convince everyone else that I have badgers on the brain.  The trouble is that I now notice badgers and badger related things so much more and I can’t help thinking that this is because I’ve been convinced myself that I am obsessed with badgers …

In which case, the whole thing has just become a vicious circle in which I become subconsciously convinced that I am a badger obsessive and so I notice badger things more and so I talk about badger things more and so everyone else thinks I’m a badger obsessive and so I become subconsciously convinced that I am a badger obsessive and so I notice badger things more and so I talk about badger things more and so everyone else thinks I’m a badger obsessive and so I become subconsciously convinced that I am a badger obsessive and so I notice badger things more and you get the idea …

Any ideas on how to break the cycle would be much appreciated!
