Long Time Coming

Profuse apologies that it’s been well over a month since I last updated here.  Apparently if you don’t update your blog every day, you shouldn’t have one … That’s what I’ve been told but in the good old-fashioned British tradition of stubbornness and self-importance, I’m going to continue regardless!

So what have I been up to the last 40 days?  I very much enjoyed the last week of Wimbledon … truly Roger Federer is a joy to watch on a Tennis court – sublime Tennis! I then had a rather busy week doing the final preparations for our Church Weekend Away which took place 8th-10th July in Matlock, Derbyshire.  It was especially interesting when I realised our caterers might not be able to get away from London after the 7th July bombings.  In the end they did get to us and we had an excellent Weekend with some superb Bible teaching on Isaiah.

After the Weekend I had a couple of days to get some much needed rest before turning my attention to preparations for the various things I’m doing over the summer – 2 Christian Youth camps and a Church Kids Holiday club.  The first camp was Sibford Pathfinder camp for 11-14 year olds held at a school near Banbury, Oxfordshire. The camp ran from 23-30 July.  I was a cook and chief muso which was great fun but very tiring!  Long days in the kitchen and then playing in the evening meetings.  We had a full band there (with drums!!!) which was soooooooooooo much fun to play with.  The kids seemed to enjoy the music and I had lots of positive comments which was very encouraging!  I’m just hoping I can go back next year!

On 30 July was my cousin’s wedding in Eastington, Gloucestershire.  Having just finished the camp and thus feeling very tired meant much of the service went over my head, but I was awake for the vows.  It’s always nice being at a Christian wedding and hearing people truly commit to one another before God.  The nosh at the reception was also spectacular – Roast pork and some of the most amazing puddings I’ve ever experienced!

After that I headed back to my parents house in Wokingham, Berkshire for a few lovely days of playing tennis, strawberry picking, Scrabble playing and watching the Cricket.  I arrived back in Manchester on Saturday and have since been preparing for the second camp that starts in 10 days at Ashville College near Harrogate in Yorkshire.

If you’re interested at all, the title of this post is borrowed from a song by The Zutons, a superb Liverpool band – well worth checking out … Very different and original sound but a lot of fun!  Anyway, that’s all for now!
