An eventful week!

Well, a lot has happened since the last time I posted.  I have been on a Leader’s Training weekend for our Christian Youth camp in the summer, I had my hair cut, I was involved in a car crash, I cooked lots of pancakes for some friends and I made some initial steps in learning how to drive!  Incidentally the third and last items are not connected!  But I have decided it’s about time I learned how to drive, and my grandparents have given me some money so I thought it would be good to use it on some Driving lessons.  Anyway, I now have a form to fill in to get a provisional driving licence and then I can think about who I’m going to get lessons with.

Strangely enough, the crash did actually motivate me in this direction.  We were coming back from church last Monday when a car in front of us stopped quickly to do a u-turn.  we braked (well, the driver braked … I was just a passenger) and another car crashed into the back of us quite hard.  Thankfully, no-one was seriously hurt – just a bit of shock and stiffness!  Compared to the last time I was involved in a car accident (hit by a BMW while crossing the road in Dec 2002), I was much better off this time round which showed that perhaps it is safer to be in the car than outside it … and if I learned to drive I’d be much less of a pedestrian and more of a … well, you know … a car person.

This wasn’t the main factor, though … I’ve been thinking about how I’d like to be much more independent transport wise and just be able to go visit people both locally and not so locally … Trouble is that you put yourself at the mercy of what can sometimes be a far too complicated and inconvenient public transport system.  I’ve discovered over the years that most buses and trains aren’t geared for luggage PLUS a guitar!  Anyway, the time has come to learn how to drive … I’m still not sure if and when ‘d be able to afford to get and run a car, but time is running out for the learning – when I’m doing a standard 9-5 job, I’m not sure when I’d fit in driving lessons.  But it would be nice to be able to drive as I’d then be able to go off and visit various friends and family dotted around the country …

Of course there is also the distinct possibility that I’d also become even more of a lazy slob than what I am at the moment and end up driving everywhere … but then there’s risk in anything!

Anyway, enough rambling … until next time …
